Thibault Mercier

My passions in life are learning, businesses and strategy. I am a fully convinced Value Investor with a liberal mindset. I believe people, entrepreneurs and companies are the true wealth of a country. Contrarily to many of my peer from the financial world, I believe that value creation in a company is generated over a long period of time, and that investing as a consequence should always be realized with a long-term mindset and a strong business approach.

Career

  • Forum Family Office (Munich): Equity Analyst
    Forum Family Office invests in Listed Companies in Europe. The firm has a Value Investor philosophy, and run a concentrated portfolio of investment over a long-period of time. Forum has generated an IRR of 15% over the period 2001-2017 and is one of the most successful investment firm in Europe. Over my stay I have been responsible for the best investment idea, in which we invested 20% of the fund AuM, and whose share price quadrupled over a 4-years period. I visited personally more than 200 companies and analyzed over a 1000 companies. My job included:
    • Covering all companies in France, Benelux and Norway
    • Analyzing any potential investment idea (screening, company meeting, additional research, writing memo, following up investment)
    • Being responsible for all the reporting

 

  • Ardian (fka: AXA Private Equity)(Paris): Intern Fund of Funds
    Ardian is one of the leading Private Equity Fund in Europe. The company has grown its Asset under Management from USD 100m in 1996 to USD 55bn at the end of 2015 and has consistantly delivered outstanding returns for its investor. My job as part of the team included:
    • Being responsible for monitoring several Private Equity funds in portfolio
    • Writing investment memo
    • Organising the liquidation of a USD 10m vehicle
    • Developing a new reporting tool (project value of EUR 500k)

Company Aim & Philosophy

THIME Management GmbH is a one-man ship company. As a consequence, the company philosophy is fully in line with my personal believes and way of thinking.

My long-term aim is to start setting-up my own investment fund, in order to compound on my ability to recognize good business models, strong processes and sound capital allocation.

I strongly believe in alignment of interests when doing business, and it seems completely normal for me to “have a taste of my own medicine” first. As a consequence I created THIME Management in order to invest my own wealth. If I do believe that I can achieve strong return for any potential investor in the future, then I should  prove it by putting my own assets at risk. I have a long-term investment philosophy, i.e. any investment decision I make is usually with a timeframe of ca. 5 years. Therefore, I know it may take time before the results of my investments start bearing fruits and I am keen on taking this risk.

In the meantime, I do not intend to stay idle. In addition to increasing my knowledge about businesses and investment, I would also like to help entrepreneurs and companies to be successful in their operations. This is why THIME Management is also offering consulting activities in the area of Strategy & Capital Allocation.
